The Behavioral Analysis Unit (BAU) is a part of the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation. It is one component of the National Center for the Analysis of Violent Crime (NCAVC). The mission of the BAU is to provide behavioral based investigative and/or operational support by applying case experience, research, and training to complex and time-sensitive crimes, which typically involve acts or threats of violence. The program areas addressed include Crimes Against Children, Crimes Against Adults, Communicated Threats, Corruption, and Bombing and Arson Investigations. The BAU receives requests for services from federal, state, local, and international law enforcement agencies. click here for more detailed formal explanation. As a part of Behavioral Analysis Unit, we, in other words, are working as profilers. We try to read the minds of the UnSub (not literally), and predicting their next step, hence we could stop them from committing another crime. As human, our prediction couldn't be 100% accurate, I know, but human behavior has pattern that most of times could be predicted, and that is what we could use to go few steps ahead of the UnSub. click here for more detailed concept explanation.
